It's an excellent centre if you're a walker for there's everything from a simple stroll to a serious trek over the Berwyns. Llangollen is not far away for the Eisteddfod, the Canal and Telford's bridge over the Dee, and if you're interested in gardens, you must visit the National Trust's Bodnant: it's worth the 30-mile drive to see one of Britain's greatest gardens famous for its wonderful Laburnum walk. A little closer to home is the Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall - one of the seven wonders of Wales.
