Wood Farm

World Heritage Coast and spectacular rural scenery … the area is famous for its rugged coastline littered with fossils from the Jurassic age. Walkers are spoilt for choice with stunning coastal views and rolling inland vistas. Lyme Regis is just two miles away and has been the inspiration for writers, artists and film makers for generations. The town offers water sports, fishing trips and an 18-hole golf course, as well as many special events throughout the year. The Park boasts beautiful surroundings and recreational activities for all: superb indoor swimming pool, tennis court, coarse fishing ponds and children’s play areas.

Hunter's Moon

On the edge of the Wareham Forest, this pleasant site provides an excellent base for touring Dorset. Some of the most attractive parts of Dorset are owned by the National Trust including substantial stretches of coastline. It is rich in combes, cliffs bays and islands and particularly rewarding for the visitor interested in birdlife and walking. Golden Cap where the Trust owns 2,000 acres of hill, farmland, cliff and beach has the highest cliff in England, brilliant with yellow gorse. This is Hardy country and you can recognise many scenes he describes in his novels. Casterbridge is Dorchester (18m). His birthplace, a charming thatched cottage with a garden ablaze with colour, is at Higher Bockhampton and can be visited by appointment with the custodian. Lawrence of Arabia's house at Cloud's Hill (10m) is also open to visitors.

Smedmore House

Escape to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that includes part of the World Heritage Coastline. The site is an open, sloping field surrounded by farmland. It has views to the Sea and Clavell Tower on one side and the Purbeck Hills on the other. Kimmeridge Bay (also part of the Smedmore Estate) is famous for fossils, fascinating geological strata and rock pools. There is wind surfing and diving on the ledges and a slipway for boats alongside the Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Fine Marine Centre, which is open to the public.

Many people stay at the site for its walking opportunities as the Dorset Coastal Path runs close by. For the avid explorer there is the wartime-abandoned village of Tyneham on M.O.D land. In a north westerly wind, the distant tank fire on the ranges is the only intrusion to this otherwise peaceful rural area.
