Kielder Water

A fabulous site for an active holiday, with some pitches overlooking Kielder Water, the largest man-made lake in Northern Europe, and backed by trees. It's a haven of peace and quiet. There is no need to leave the area to find every kind of outdoor sport, from the water-based varieties (indoor swimming pool and licensed restaurant 5 minutes walk from the site), through Birds of Prey Centre and orienteering to bird watching, cycling (bicycle hire available nearby), crazy golf and just plain walking. For the youngsters there's an adventure playground just outside the site. Yet despite this hive of activity there's marvellous quietude, and if you watch carefully you'll see shy deer and even red squirrels. Note: Midges can be troublesome Jun-Aug - an insect repellent is advised.

The Woods

The view from the caravan window alone is worth the journey. The site is quiet and tranquil with almost a 180 degree panorama to the Ochil Hills, where in autumn the purple heather and golden bracken are brilliant. The nearby Gartmorn Dam country park and nature reserve offers a ranger service of guided walks and there is excellent fishing. In Dollar Glen, Castle Campbell and the National Trust woodland will make an interesting day out. An ideal touring base where the Lowlands end and the Highlands begin with Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, The Trossachs and Loch Lomond all within easy reach.
